Hydraulic breakers can be divided into\u00a0<strong>three main categories<\/strong>\u00a0based on the size and type of excavator onto which they are fitted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small breakers<\/strong>, mainly used for digging work, roadworks, demolition in residential areas, and building renovation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medium-sized breakers<\/strong>, mainly used for demolishing buildings, excavations in urban areas, and secondary breaking in quarries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Large breakers<\/strong>, mainly used for major demolitions, primary excavation in quarries, and digging foundations, tunnels and railway tunnels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Components and operation of hydraulic breakers<\/h3>\n<p>Hydraulic breakers consist of a\u00a0<strong>breaker unit<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>casing<\/strong>\u00a0fitted with shock absorbing and vibration damping systems (that surround and protect the breaker unit), and a\u00a0<strong>tool<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cmoil\u201d or \u201cchisel\u201d point).<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>breaker unit<\/strong>\u00a0can be made as a\u00a0<strong>single part (monoblock)<\/strong>\u00a0or in\u00a0<strong>multiple parts secured together with four tie rods<\/strong>. Inside it has basically two moving parts: a piston (or striking hammer) and a distributor. In addition there is also a tool designed to impact the surface being demolished or excavated.<\/p>\n<p>Hydraulic breakers must be connected to the hydraulic system of an excavator. The thrust provided by the high pressure hydraulic fluid, or from the low pressure nitrogen contained in the head,\u00a0<strong>drive the striking head<\/strong>. The energy generated by the thrust is then transferred violently to the top of the tool, which releases it into the ground.<\/p>\n<h3>5 recommendations for the correct use of hydraulic breakers<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Always use hydraulic breakers perpendicular to the surface of the material being demolished and set the correct level of operating pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Breakers must NEVER hammer &#8220;in idle&#8221;: idle strokes cause early wear and breakage of the tool retainer pin.<\/li>\n<li>DO NOT use hydraulic breakers to move heavy masses with the point or casing.<\/li>\n<li>Hydraulic breakers must NOT impact the same point for more than 30 seconds. If you persist too long in the same position, the hydraulic fluid overheats and there is a risk of the piston seizing.<\/li>\n<li>DO NOT submerge the breaker in water beyond the extension of the tool.
